Mr. Miss and Mz Gay Edmonton Pageant
Every year during Pride, the ISCWR puts on the Gay Edmonton pageant, where some step down and some step up but all have a good time. This year's theme "Gays-A-Go-Go" came from last years 50s theme, and because pride is full of colors, and because it was in the 60's that pride came to be. This years Gays, Vonda DuPont, Prince Charmin, and Lyria Lust figured this theme would be a great and fun way to celebrate who we are, and what the pageant is about.
This year, Lyria says, "we can expect many fun performances... we have a lot more contestants, which will make the pageant all that more fun. This year is the 25th year that we have had gay edmontons, so Leah Way will be doing a special performance, as she was the first gay edmonton. Also we have quite a few commands, and will be opening up the pageant even more to the lesbian community with our female judge."
Some of Lyria's highlights from this past year have been the amateur show, which the Gays hosted, as well as Vonda's Mad Hatter show. Lyria also enjoyed the annual Turnabout, "where we were all able to come out of our comfort zones, and dress in drag". (In the case of queens, this meant performing as boys).
With candidates running for all three positions, it is bound to be an exciting contest. To the candidates Lyria would say: you will probably have the most fun you could ever have from any organization, but you also have to work hard to. "I have met some of the nicest people that I could ever meet from being part of this organization, and they will to. We are all working together to make our community safe, and fun, and we are so happy that they are interested in being a part of that. Good luck to all who enter, and remember that even if you do not win, you can still be part of our organization."
The ISCWR welcomes newcomers, and this is a great gateway title. If interested in running, it's not too late. Check out the facebook event or the ISCWR website for more details. The pageant is June 15 at FLASH.
