The Lion King

Be prepared for a wonderful drag production! The guys and dolls of the Imperial Sovereign Court of the Wild Rose are bringing the Lion King to the stage at their Annual Coronation Ball.

This August 25, the ISCWR is holding their traditional ball at which a new Emperor and Empress are elected. Normally at this event, there would be the “Last Walks” of the monarchs. This year, as it has been a team of “Regents” guiding the organization, they have decided to close the evening with a full-scale production of the Lion King, an amalgamation of the movie and the stage version, costumed and choreographed to dazzle and delight!

You may have seen such recent court productions as Avenue Q or the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rob Bigonion, one of the three Emperor Regents of the year says “the ISCWR is known for their group work. I haven't seen this quality of production in other cities on the circuit and it is something I am particularly proud of.” Rob, who will be playing Scar, went on to explain why they decided to stage such an ambitious show. “The Lion King captures the essence of the past few years. We have been making a huge effort to bring in new performers and teach them about the Court and what its about. This show isn't about any one reign. It is about our Court as a whole, and our City and what we have accomplished, and what we will continue to achieve by working together.”

The ISCWR did the Lion King as a show at the Roost several years ago, and brought t back because its theme fit with the theme for this reign: The Circle of Life, Where Everything That Was Old Is New Again. When no one wanted to run for Emperor and Empress XXXVI, a team of six regents stepped in to fill the void, and mentor all the fresh blood coming into this organization with a thirty-seven year old history. What better way to end this year than by resurrecting this popular show that everyone can enjoy?

The Coronation ball will also include presentations from anniversary monarchs as well as the crowning of the new Emperor and Empress. More details can be found at http://www.iscwr.ca Tickets are available now.
